1. Mix Designer Pieces with Wardrobe Basics

When styling an outfit, consider the 80/20 rule.  Wear primarily capsule wardrobe basics (80%), and just one or two designers or personality pieces (20%).

By starting with wardrobe basics, you create the foundation of your outfit made up of black, camel, navy, or ivory, then add your designer piece to add interest and personality to the outfit.

In my video I selected a chambray shirt, a pair of black jeans and Rothy’s black pointed toe flats as my wardrobe basics.  By adding a colorful Tory Burch purse, the outfit instantly became more interesting.  I showed the Tory Burch purse as the feature piece, and it truly becomes the star of the show!

My style tip to look younger:  Use one or two designer pieces with your wardrobe basics and you will look more stylish and modern.

Confident Style Tips

2. Accessorize Wisely – Don’t Over Accessorize

Wearing too many pieces of jewelry makes your outfit look busy and is counterproductive to great style.

Consider wearing one statement piece when building your outfit.  For example, if you choose a statement necklace, keep the rest of your jewelry very simple.

In the video, the statement pieces was my bracelet.  With it, I wore a pair of pearl stud earrings, a simple silver chain and my Apple watch.  By keeping the other pieces simple, the beautiful silver mesh bracelet took center stage.

3. Tuck-It

Tucking in your shirts, sweaters, and blouses makes a big difference in how your outfit looks.  Untucked oversized shirts & sweaters provide your outfit with no shape, they look messy and they add weight to your silhouette.

One of the best features of the tuck is, it camouflages a larger stomach, and a less-shapely /  boyish figure by defining your waist and giving you some shape.  In my video, I suggest three different ways to tuck:

  1. the front tuck (waterfall),
  2. the full tuck (all the way around), and
  3. the half tuck (tucked on one side)

Consider giving each of them a try to determine which style suits you the best.

My style tip to look younger:  Use one or two designer pieces with your wardrobe basics and you will look more stylish and modern.

4. Wear a Jacket or Blazer

Jackets and blazers are perfect wardrobe piece to add style and polish to most any outfit.

Besides looking great, blazers and jackets are great for camouflaging a larger waist.  If you choose a shorter jacket, is also helps to define your waistline if your shirt is untucked.

5. Push Up Your Sleeves

Push up your sleeves is a quick way to add make your outfit look more casual and add a cool factor to your look.

To keep your sleeves from falling down, I recommend using an old stretched-out hair band to keep your sleeves in place all day.  As I show in the video, place the elastic band over your sleeve above the buttons the scrunch it up so the elastic is just above your elbow.  This will keep your sleeves exactly where you want them.

The only time I would suggest that you skip this step is f you are going for a more formal look.

6. Choose Stylish Shoes

I highly suggest choosing a pointed toe shoe to polish off your outfit.  Pointed toes elongate your legs and make you look taller.  Whether you choose flats, pumps or boots, as long as they have a pointed toe, you will look more stylish.

Big, clunky rubber soles, with the traditional square toe or rounded-toe loafers, look frumpy.

If you love loafers, find some with a trendy flair.  Shoes can make or break an outfit, so choose carefully.

I highly recommend trying out Rothy’s pointed toe flats.  They are super comfortable, you can walk for miles and remain blister free.

7. Wear No-Show Socks

When wearing low slung sneakers such as Van-style sneakers, many times we choose to by-pass wearing socks because we don’t want our socks to show.  The difficulty with this is, our shoes get stinky.

Consider this style tip (shown in the video), put on a pair of thin athletic socks, pulling them only halfway up your foot.  Then slide on your low-slung sneakers or shoes and tuck in any portion of the socks which are still showing.

8. Cover’em Up & Lift’em Up

Cover’em Up & Lift’em – I’m talking about the girls!   Too much of a good thing can be bad.

By keeping the girls covered up you look more modern, youthful and elegant.  Wear higher-cut v-neck and scoop blouses for a polished look.

Also, droopy girl-parts are not a good look.  Wear supportive undergarments to create your most flattering silhouette.    Consider replacing your bra and shape-wear every six months to 1 year to ensure proper support.  Wearing nude-colored undergarments is the best choice to avoid an outfit faux pas.

9. Wear a Smaller Bag

Consider wearing a smaller bag to look younger, thinner and more modern.  Giant purses add weight to your silhouette, can hurt our shoulders and backs, and do nothing for the look of your outfit.

If you can’t live without your larger purse,  I get it!  I’ve been there too.  However, I encourage you to try letting go!

Just your luck….I have the perfect plan to ween you off your oversized bag.

Pack a smaller bag with all of your essentials while leaving the rest of your stuff in the larger bag.  Your smaller bag should include stuff like a small wallet, credit cards, money and ID, include your lipstick, your phone, and any other small essentials (like medication) you may need. Place the smaller purse inside the larger bag and bring it all with you.  Take it in the car, to the office or on your trip so you have all your stuff.

When you head out for smaller trips, like out to lunch or sightseeing for the day, for example, take only the small purse with you and leave the big bag behind you (stored in a safe place).  Before you know it, you will love your small purse and realize you CAN live without all the extra stuff.

My style tip to look younger:  Wear a smaller bag to look more stylish and avoid injuring your shoulders and back.

10. Focus on Good Posture

Focusing on good posture is an important style tip to look younger, polished, and chic.

By simply keeping your shoulders back and your chin up, you instantly look more confident and youthful.  Have you ever heard the term, “fake it till you make it?”  By practicing good posture, you look more confident, look more powerful, and appear more youthful.  Do this enough and the law of attraction will have you sub-conscious mind believing you are all of of these things!  If this one tough for you, practice.  Before you know it, it will be part of your normal routine.

Another fabulous benefit of good posture is we look taller, thinner and our clothing lays nicer on our bodies.  The best part is, it’s easy, it’s free, and it makes such a big difference in how we present ourselves to the world.

My style tip to look younger:  Always focus on good posture and you will not only look more confident and powerful, but you will feel younger and more stylish.
