Prep Steps
Hydrate First Thing in the Morning
Applying argan oil to your face each morning is a great prep-step for adding a quick dose of moisture to your skin at the start of your day. Fabulous for hydrating your skin, argan oil also has anti-aging properties, it has sebum reducing properties to reduce oily skin, treats acne, treats atopic dermatitis, and so much more.
Moisturize
Before applying makeup, give your skin another dose of hydration by applying a good moisturizer. Personally, I like to use CeraVe moisturizing cream. It has a thick, rich consistency and leaves my skin very hydrated and ready to receive makeup.
5 Minute Makeup Look
1. Primer
ELFs poreless putty primer is new to my makeup kit, but I really love it and I think you will too. In addition to applying it to my cheeks, forehead and chin, I find it works very well as an eyelid primer and lip primer too.
Makeup seems to glide on and stay in place better, which makes it look so much nicer throughout the day.
Definitely worth taking 30 seconds to apply primer before the rest of your makeup.
2. Hydrating Foundations are Not all the Same
Not all hydrating foundations and tinted creams are created equally! Choosing the right foundation is one of the most important steps if you want a fresh, radiant 5 minute makeup look. QMS Active Glow Day Cream is a very hydrating foundation. It provides nice coverage (light to medium) and is very comfortable to wear. You won’t feel like you’re wearing a mask. Whether you use this product or something else on the market, the key is finding a product with luminance. This is the critical to realizing a fresh radiant finished look. Personally, I love this product because blurs fine lines and wrinkles.
3. Hydrating Camo Concealer
Lighten and brighten the eyes by applying a hydrating concealer under the eyes and on the eyelids. ELF Hydrating camo concealer provides nice coverage – it is ideal for this quick and easy 5 minute makeup tutorial.
The shade used in the tutorial is medium peach.
4. Bronzer is a Great Eyeshadow for Mature Skin
Matte bronzer is a nice multi-purpose product. It is an ideal natural color eyeshadow, and is kind to eyelid fine lines. Additionally it does not have the fallout that I find with typical eyeshadow (fallout = powder drop below the eye).
The product I used in the video is no longer available, so I have attached a similar matte bronzer you may wish to consider.
The lightest color in this four-color palette is a great all-over shade. The darkest shade is ideal for use in the crease to enhance the shape of eyes, give them definition and minimize the look of eyelid hooding. This four season palette is by Physician Formula.
5. Eyebrow Pencil is a Great Hack for Youthful Looking Eyes
An awesome hack for instantly looking more modern and youthful is using brow pencil to fill sparse eyebrows. As we age, those pesky grey hairs cause our eyebrows to look less defined. By slightly enhancing the color of our eyebrows, it helps to frame our eyes and provides a polished look.
ELFs instant lift brow pencil in taupe is a fabulous product to enhance your eyes. Once you have filled in your brows, use the spooly end to brush your brow hair up. This is another trick to making your eyes look fresh and youthful.
6. Cream Blush Provides a Soft Fresh Look
Another important factor to look good up close, when applying makeup to mature skin, is using cream based cosmetics. Using a cream blush, such as ELF putty blush, is ideal for mature skin because it rests beautifully on the skin and does not emphasize fine lines and wrinkles. This product has a creamy texture that provides a light, sheer color to the cheeks.
The shade used in the tutorial is Turks & Caicos.
7. Eye Pencil creates Definition
In this tutorial, Wet N Wild Mega Last Breakup-Proof Retractable eyeliner was used to provide additional definition and lift to the eyes. Eyeliner applied at the upper waterline of the eyes make our eyes appear more bright and lifted. After 40, we need to take every opportunity to reduce the effect of eyelid hooding. This eyeliner technique provides the needed lift to make our eyes appear more youthful. Don’t skip this step if you want a more youthful look.
The shade used in the tutorial is black.
8. Mascara adds Definition to the Eyes
Mascara is the next step. This step adds definition and emphasis to the eyes. In this tutorial I used Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL. Its a higher end product which provides very nice volume and length and dries relatively quickly.
9. Bronzer or Powder Sets the Makeup
Using very little powder on the face is the key to keeping this 5 minute makeup look fresh and radiant. I recommend using either bronzer or setting powder to set the makeup (but not both).
In this look I used bronzer and applied it where the sun would naturally fall on my face. It provides a warm glow while also setting the makeup. The product I used in the video is no longer available, so I have included a similar matte bronzing product by Physicians Formula.
10. Lipstick & Lip Gloss Duo is the Perfect Combo for this Look
In this 5 minute makeup tutorial, I used the Wet N Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit High Shine Lipstick – Flirt Alert.
This pink lipstick is comfortable on the lips and looks fresh and youthful. If pink does not align with your color tones, choose peach or nude for a similar look. If you want to glam it up a bit use a darker shade on the lips.
