How to Style Beige Pant Outfits with a Neutral Color Palette
Have you seen those women who have it dialed in and look effortlessly chic in their neutral color outfits? Well, let me tell you a little something, pulling off those looks is much more challenging than it appears!
While neutral outfits are nothing new, lately neutral outfits have caught my eye and inspired me to look at my clothing differently. So I went through my closet and pulled out some neutral pieces that I have typically worn as the supporting pieces for colorful outfits, to style them together. I pulled out items that are ivory, white, tan, taupe, khaki and rust. My thought was, I can pull out some random neutral clothing, throw them together and effortlessly create some amazing-looking outfits.
Ah, no.
I quickly discovered that my reckless, non-callant approach to styling up neutral colored outfits quickly led me down the path of styling some pretty frumpy looks. Who knew there were so many shades of beige, taupe and cream that do not play nice together?
Styling Neutrals
The lesson I learned quickly: neutrals have feelings too. You can’t just throw them together and hope they all get along.
Seriously though, it is crucial to pay close attention to color tone and texture when styling outfits using a neutral color palette! While throwing together an attractive neutral outfit looks easy and effortless, once I started putting together clothing pieces, I quickly discovered it was much more complicated than it looks.
#1 Mix Neutral Tones
Choose your neutrals carefully! Like most colors, neutrals such as beige and taupe have undertones. Beige colors have warm undertones and look good paired with other neutrals with warm undertones. While taupe has cooler undertones and looks good with other cooler toned neutrals. Beige and taupe can work together, but styling them strategically is very important.
Beige tones like other beiges and taupe tones like other taupes, but when wearing beige and taupe together, the balance of color must be intentional. As you can see in the outfit below, the cami top is taupe while the belt and shoes I am wearing have warmer beige tones. The pieces work because the pants are a clean neutral without overt yellow or grey undertones….creating the perfect balance….whew.

So classic and elegant, this beige monochrome outfit is perfect for a summer day.
The Ideal Neutral Colors for Your Skin Tone
If you are wondering which neutrals are best for you, assess your skin tone. For a quick and easy to determine your skin’s undertones, look at the underside of your wrist and follow these instructions:
In natural light, check the appearance of your veins beneath your skin.
If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone.
If your veins look green or a greenish blue, you have a warm skin tone.
If you can’t tell whether or not your veins are green or blue, you probably have a neutral skin tone.

If you have a warmer skin tone, creams and beige neutrals with a yellow undertone will align better with the colors in your complexion. While those with those skin cooler skin tones will look better in neutrals with grey undertones such as white and taupes. If you have a neutral skin tone, you can wear both.

#2 Embrace Texture
Incorporating some texture into our beige pant outfits is perfect for adding interest. By adding elements that are smooth or rough, soft or hard, coarse of fine, matt, glossy or metallic into your outfits is a sure way to incorporate texture. We can do this with our accessories, clothing choices and jewelry.
Silver Skinny Belt & Jewelry Create Interest
In all the beige pant outfits I shared in this collection, I am wearing a beautiful wrap bracelet that I picked up from Amazon. This bracelet is perfect for adding texture, while also accenting the other gold, silver and pearl jewelry I am wearing. Such a beautiful piece.
The accessories we choose also are a fabulous way to bring texture into our outfits. In the outfit below, I selected a silver skinny belt to add a bit of shine and an element of interest to this outfit.

#3 Consider Balance & Structure
Balance and structure relate to both the color and shape of the ensembles we style.
Color Balance
Specifically, when considering balance in design, I lean on the 80/20 rule. In the example below, color balance is the focus. I paired a cool taupe colored cami with the neutral jeans and a warm-colored raffia belt to offer some contrast. The balance works because the beige jeans take on the cooler taupe tones to dominate the look (80%), while raffia belt and nude wedge sandals align to create the compliment (20%).
The understated silver and pearl jewelry add some shine and compliment the outfit creating no distraction.

Outfit Structure
Structure is the arrangement or order that creates a sense of calm and restfulness for the eyes. When styling neutral colored outfits, having a sense of order or structure creates a calming cohesive look.
To create structure in your outfits, there are two primary elements you need to consider. The first is to define the shape of your body, then second, bring focus to your best features.
For example, if your best feature is your legs, show them off. Accentuate your legs by wearing a skirt or dress that shows them off. Second, consider wearing beautiful shoes that draw more attention to that part of your body.
The clean lines of this white tank top create structure by giving m. Second, I put on a cropped denim jacket which brings attention to my waistline. The layering of these pieces not only creates structure along with fooling the eye to making my waist look smaller.
If the tank and jacket were oversized and slouchy, this outfit would lack structure and look sloppy.
White Tank Top Outfit
Ideal for staying cool this summer! If you struggle with hot flashes, wearing light colored, cool cotton fabrics will serve you well.
White Jean Jacket Outfit
This cropped white jean jacket offers an additional element of structure to this look. The layering of these pieces strategically draws attention to the waistline (jacket & tank top), offering an element of interest, while also tricking the eye into making my waistline look smaller because of the boxy style of the white denim jacket.
Perfect paired with some comfortable nude pointed toe flats, this outfit is light and airy looking and fabulous for summer.
#4 Push the Limits
Push the limit when styling your neutral outfits. Neutral colors are the muted shade of any color, not just the brown tones that I have shared in the outfits above. Consider wearing a grouping of neutral blues, greens, purples, greys or any color that looks good on you.
If you need inspiration, consider the beauty of nature around you. Notice the beautiful shades of blue we see near bodies of water, or the fabulous shades of purple found in a flower garden in the spring.
Get Inspired by Nature
My garden is a peaceful place where I get lost in the excitement of nurturing new life and seeing the miracle of nature. The joy of planting seeds and watching new plants emerge through the surface of the dirt into new healthy bits of life, along with the growth and progress I see all season long, brings me joy.
Checking in on them each day as they gain more strength and maturity is both nourishing to the soul and a wonderfully fulfilling experience. My love for my garden and nature is where I found my inspiration for the next grouping of outfits.

#5 Make it Your Own
Wear what you love and what feels good! I love pastels, specifically pink. While pink is not for everyone, it is a color I reach for frequently because I love it.
Inspired by Peonies
For this neutral outfit, I paired my beige jeans and a pink sweater vest with my nude pointed-toe flats to create a casual, soft feminine outfit. For an extra pop of femininity, put on a strand of pearls and pulled out my nude/pink bag bag with a custom pearl replacement handle I picked up from Amazon.
Pairing this outfit with a cream blazer makes this outfit perfect for a smart, casual office look. Very fashionable. This outfit checks all my boxes for wearing the colors I love.
